So Ready for a Chill Weekend

rockaway surfers

Happy Friday! As usual, I’m thrilled it’s the weekend—because that means I’ll be at the beach. (Rockaway, this time.) Even though it’s a schlep to get to any of them from Washington Heights, it’s so worth it. Nothing comparesВ to a day at the beach in the summertime.

Until next week, some of my favorite travel links from around the web:

More amazing aerial summer photos.

Awesome: NYC music references, mapped.

Rainbow-hued balconies in Sweden.

Extreme Slip’N Slide! At Lake Powell, Utah.

10 words and phrases travel writers should avoid. I totally agree, but admit that I’m guilty of using most of them, at some point!

How to make your home feel like a beach house. After coming back from my beach house week, I’ve wanted to overhaul my apartment and make it feel more like a seaside place.

I want this tree tent.

Dogfish Head just opened an inn!

…this isn’t travel-related, but it’s good to keep in mind: Your happiness makes your friends and familyВ happier.

Have a good one!

  1. Love the beach house link, Heather! I’m still in the process of finishing my beachside apartment – we renovated last year and I’m still after the final touches… like a giant feature mirror, turqouise and pale yellow cushions and a blue runner to offset all the white, white white I have in my place! Great link to some fabulous inspirational photos!

      1. I love it, Peggy! The blues and whites are so beachy! I would happily stay there if I make it back to Australia, one of these days. рџ™‚

  2. Hi Heather! I love your blog and your stories on weekend trips from NYC. We just launched a travel search site focused on weekend travel from NYC (travel within 72 hours or less) http://www.discoverue.com. We would love to share one of your stories on the site. Feel free to email me if you are interested. Cheers!

    1. Hi Dwayne!

Thanks for the kind words! I love the idea behind your site, as well. If you could email me a little more information, that would be great—thanks!

  3. Thanks for the kind words as well! Just like you, my wife and I LOVE NYC but we always are looking for that weekend trip. I guess leaving the city makes you appreciate the city more! Could you please PM me your email so I can share with you more details.
